You have probably just published your first book, and preparing to market your book. Or, you are probably having a book tour to help build up your profile and more visibility for your book. Whichever it is, you might just need to prepare yourself for an interview session. Who knows, some of your readers might have a series of questions they intend to ask you about your book. To however get your prepared, below are interview questions for first-time authors.

  1. At what point in your life did you decide to be a writer?
  2. What prompted you to publish this particular book?
  3. Did you write this book to impress your readers or did you strive to be original when writing as much as you can?
  4. What effect does publishing a book has on you as a writer?
  5. What is your major writing kryptonite?
  6. If you could go back to unpublish this book, what part of the book will you change or add to before publishing, and why?
  7. What made you choose this particular title for your manuscript?
  8. How does writing this book make you feel?
  9. How much time did you invest in writing this book?
  10. What is your perception of writer’s block?
  11. How long have you been writing before deciding to publish this book?
  12. What, in your own opinion, are the elements of a good book? Does your book possess those elements?
  13. What time of the day do you consider the best time to write a book?
  14. What do you think your readers will likely say after reading your book?
  15. How do you deal with detaching your emotions from your writing?
  16. What is your favourite part of this book and why?
  17. How can your readers get a copy of this book?
  18. What was your publishing experience like?
  19. Apart from that which is stated on the book cover blurb, is there anything else you would like to share?
  20. Which of your book character has a special place in your heart and what exactly is the reason behind that?
  21. What exact message are you trying to depict through your book?
  22. How did you come up with the particular book cover for your manuscript?
  23. If your book were to become a movie, which of the movie stars will you make your protagonist and which one will you make your antagonist?
  24. What are the challenges you encountered while writing this book?
  25. What is the exact message you intend to pass across to people through this book?
  26. Do you intend publishing another book in the nearest future?
  27. Which author’s writing style influenced your writing the most?
  28. What is your favourite life quote?
  29. Do you belong to any book club?
  30. Are you an avid reader, and do you have a home library?
